BMW Parts Warranty
There are
different parts warranties depending on what parts are purchased, how they are
purchased, and how they are installed, and by whom. Below are descriptions of
the different stipulations.
BMW / MINI Original (Genuine) Parts
Prior to a
New Vehicle's First Delivery
BMW/MINI
Original Parts that are installed on new vehicles by the BMW/MINI Vehicle
Distribution Center (VDC) or a Center/Dealer (in-stock) are covered by the New
Vehicle Limited Warranty for Passenger Cars and Light Trucks.
(Note: Only New "Non-Remanufactured" parts must
be used for repairs on new in-stock vehicles.)
After
Delivery of a New Vehicle
BMW/MINI
Original Parts that are installed during a repair procedure by a center/dealer
are warranted for the:
Ø
Remainder of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty
for Passenger Cars and Light Trucks/MINI New Passenger Car Limited Warranty,
Certified Pre-Owned & EVP/ESC programs.
Part
replacements under the new vehicle limited warranty, EVP and CPO programs are
not eligible for parts warranty coverage. They are only eligible for the
remaining portion of the new vehicle limited warranty or program.
(Note: If a customer contributes to an ESC
repair that exceeds the remaining NADA Repair Value, the replaced parts will be
eligible for 2-year parts warranty coverage. )
Replacements
under Goodwill: Self-Authorized (DSA) and Field Authorized (FAS)
The 24 month
unlimited miles coverage applies regardless of the amount the customer, your
center/dealer and/or BMW NA/MINI USA contributed towards the installation.
Limited
Extended Warranty Extension Coverage
Should a part
that is replaced under a Limited Warranty Extension Coverage fail again
(excluding parts that are replaced as a result of consequential damage), it is
covered by the remaining portion of the extended limited warranty coverage
period. Note: Parts that are replaced as a result of consequential damage are
warrantied for two years/unlimited miles coverage from the date of
installation.

Non-Qualifying
Repairs
Non-US
specification vehicles, ineligible vehicles, eligible vehicles operated and
repaired outside the United States and Puerto Rico and/or the diagnosis and
repair of other "unrelated" issues are not covered under the terms of this
limited warranty extension.
Exception -
BMW/MINI Service Actions, Recalls, Maintenance Service and Service Package
Parts
replacements that are required to perform a BMW/MINI "Service Action",
"Recall", "Maintenance Service" or "Service Package" are warranted for the:

Remainder of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty
for Passenger Cars and Light Trucks period; or
Ø
Two years from the date of installation,
whichever is greater. These parts receive the remainder of the applicable
warranty coverage should subsequent failure(s) occur.

BMW / MINI Original Accessories & BMW M
Performance Parts / MINI John Cooper Works Parts
BMW/MINI Vehicle
Distribution Center (VDC) Installed
BMW/MINI
Original Accessories and BMW M Performance Parts/MINI JCW Parts that are
installed on new vehicles by the VDC are covered by the New Vehicle Limited
Warranty for Passenger Cars and Light Trucks.
BMW Center
/MINI Dealer Installed
BMW/MINI
Original Accessories and BMW M Performance Parts/MINI JCW Parts that are
installed on new vehicles (in-stock) by a center/dealer:
Ø
Prior to the first delivery to a customer, the
accessory or performance part will carry the coverage for New Vehicle Limited
Warranty for Passenger Cars and Light Trucks.
Ø
After delivery, the accessory or performance
part will be warranted for the remainder of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty
for Passenger Cars and Light Trucks, or 24 months from the date of
installation, whichever is greater.
o
The coverage applies regardless of the amount
the customer, your center and/or BMW NA/MINI USA contributed towards the
installation.
Accessories or
performance parts that are replaced under the BMW NA Limited Parts Warranty
receive the remainder of the original 24 month without mileage limitation
coverage, should subsequent failure(s) occur
BMW /MINI Original Parts and Accessories - Sold Over
the Counter
When a part or
accessory, sold over the counter, is already removed from the vehicle, and
returned to the center's Parts department as defective with the original sales
receipt, BMW NA/MINI USA will either reimburse the center the:
Ø
Cost of repairing the part; or the
Ø
Cost of an equivalent new or remanufactured
replacement BMW/MINI Original Part or Accessory.
The labor
required to remove and reinstall the part, in this situation, is not
reimbursable to the customer.
It is always
preferable, but not a requirement, that the vehicle with the installed part or
accessory be returned to the center's Service Department to confirm the
existence of a defect.
When the part
is confirmed defective by an authorized center/dealer, through the use of
proper diagnosis and repair procedures, BMW NA/MINI USA will reimburse the
center's labor for diagnosis and the repair or replacement of an equivalent new
or remanufactured BMW/MINI Original Part or Accessory.
Part
installations by the end customer: The warranty "start date" is the invoice
date of the parts sale to the end customer.
The end
customer must provide the original customer invoice to prove the parts warranty
start date. A claim submitted without this invoice on file at your center is
not eligible for reimbursement.
BMW/MINI
Original Parts and Accessories that are replaced under the BMW NA/MINI USA
Limited Parts Warranty receive the remainder of the original 24 month without
mileage limitation coverage, should subsequent failure(s) occur.
All BMW/MINI
Original Parts and Accessories must be installed according to BMW NA/MINI USA
guidelines to prevent damage. For example: Failure to perform the Oil Priming
and Circuit Bleeding procedure when replacing the Engine Assembly. Any failures
or damage, including consequential, which results from the improper
installation of a BMW/MINI Original Part or Accessory, or external influences
are not covered by the warranty. For example: Cleaning or replacing auxiliary
components, coolers, lines etc. to avoid new part contamination.
Lifestyle
Accessories / MINI Motoring Gear
Lifestyle
Accessories / MINI Motoring Gear are not covered by the New Vehicle Limited
Warranty for Passenger Cars and Light Trucks or as a BMW/MINI Original Parts
Warranty. Please refer to the warranty information supplied with the item (if
applicable).
The definition
of Lifestyle Accessories/MINI Motoring Gear covers all BMW/MINI Automotive
Lifestyle and personal accessories such as clothing, key chains, pens, watches,
glasses, mugs, umbrellas, etc. It does not include accessories for the vehicle
such as telephones, floor mats, CD changers, mud flaps, sheepskin seat covers,
vehicle covers, map lights, etc.
Lifetime Limited Parts Warranty
BMW of North
America, LLC warrants to the original purchaser of Original (new or
remanufactured) BMW shock absorbers, strut assemblies and inserts, mufflers,
starters, alternators and water pumps sold and installed by an authorized BMW
center against defects in materials or workmanship for as long as the original
purchaser of the covered part owns the vehicle in which the covered part was
installed. Effective with Original BMW Parts purchased by the customer on or
after December 1, 1998. Upon discovery of a defect in material or workmanship,
the vehicle in which the covered part was originally installed shall be brought
to the workshop of any authorized BMW center to obtain service under this
warranty. The BMW center will repair or replace the defective covered part
under this warranty upon presentation of the original invoice/repair order and
after verifying the customer's name, vehicle identification number, the
eligibility of the part or parts, and date of installation. The decision to
repair or replace a part is solely the prerogative of BMW of North America,
LLC.
Parts Sold On
or After April 1, 2003 During the first 24 months of this warranty, replacement
of a defective covered part will be performed without charge to the
customer. After the first 24 months, the
cost of labor to replace a covered part under this warranty will be the
responsibility of the customer.
Any part
replaced under the terms of this warranty shall become the property of BMW of
North America.
This warranty does
not apply to:
Ø
Damage resulting from negligence, improper
installation or lack of maintenance, flood, accident, or fire.
Ø
Damages resulting from modifications that alter
the original engineering or operating specifications of the vehicle or part.
Ø
Failure due to external influences.
Ø
Requests for warranty coverage by any person
other than the original purchaser. •Vehicles/parts covered by the BMW New
Vehicle Limited Warranty.
Ø
Parts sold over-the-counter or wholesale and not
installed by an authorized BMW center.
Ø
If the vehicle in which the covered part is
installed is used in competitive driving or racing. The duration of any implied
warranties is limited to the duration of the express warranty herein.
BMW of North
America hereby excludes incidental and consequential damages, including loss of
time, inconvenience or loss of use of the part or vehicle, for any breach of
any express or implied warranty applicable to this product.
Some states do
not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, or the exclusion
or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitations
and exclusions may not apply to you.
List of Eligible Parts
To receive
lifetime limited parts warranty coverage, the retail customer must have
purchased the following eligible replacement BMW Original Parts on or after
December 1, 1998:
1. Shock
Absorbers
2. Strut
Assemblies and Inserts
3. Mufflers
4. New and
Remanufactured Starters
5. New and
Remanufactured Alternators
6. New and
Remanufactured Water Pumps
The lifetime
limited parts warranty is currently restricted to this select group of parts
and applies to both BMW cars and BMW SAVs.
Guidelines
for the BMW Value Protection Program
Eligible BMW
Original Parts:
· 1
to 24 months old (BMW Original Parts Warranty Coverage)
Ø
These parts are covered by the BMW Original
Parts Warranty for the first 2 years/unlimited miles.
Ø
The repair or replacement of a defective
eligible part, including labor, will be performed without charge to the
customer.
· 25
months and older (Lifetime Limited Parts Warranty Coverage)
Ø
The replacement of an eligible part is now
covered under this program.
Ø
The cost of labor to replace an eligible part is
the responsibility of the customer.
The customer
must have purchased the eligible replacement BMW Original Part the first
time receive a lifetime limited warranty.
The
lifetime limited warranty:
Remains in
effect for as long as the original purchaser of the replacement part owns the
BMW vehicle the part was installed on.
Only applies to
repairs made with the eligible BMW Original Parts which were installed by an
authorized BMW center.
The
lifetime limited warranty does not apply to:
Eligible
program parts which were originally installed under the BMW New Vehicle/SAV
Limited Warranty, the Certified Pre-Owned BMW Protection Program or BMW Service
Contract.
Eligible
program parts sold over the counter or to wholesale accounts.
Customers'
Instructions for the Program
To receive the
benefits of the lifetime limited warranty, the customer must provide the BMW
center with a copy of the lifetime limited warranty statement and the original
repair order. The repair order must indicate that the customer purchased and
installed one or more of the eligible parts at an earlier date.
